Vinyla night
A total of four recordings in the Record of the Year category were nominated by the jury of the Vinyl Music Awards due to the same number of votes. The rapper Anki, the anonymous musician GbClifford, the electronic hitmaker Mat213 and the duo Irena and Vojtěch Havel have the opportunity to win awards for their albums from last year. In the Discovery of the Year category, the band Ida the Young, the duo Between the Floors Calm and singer-songwriter Barbora Hora have been nominated twice - for – their solo work and with the band Whyohwhy. The jury nominated the charity compilation Transmission for Palestine, the Sanatorium Sonorum project, which includes a residency programme for artists and a festival of contemporary music, the Synth Library Prague and the multifunctional cultural space ARCHA+, where, coincidentally, a gala evening will also take place on 7 March.
Full concerts will be played by Anki, Dukla, Mat213, between the floors calm or whyohwhy.
Anki
Last time in the Vinyla nominations he said he didn't want any more drama, in the title of his latest album the Prague rapper Anki says: I want to feel safe. The new record completes a trilogy of records in which he talked about his upbringing in the Sudetenland, but this time he gets down to the nitty gritty and, paradoxically, the most danceable beats. In the tracks from the new album, Anki talks about drug addiction or domestic violence, but the record ultimately finds hope in a contented present.
Producers such as harshmellow, badfocus and Silverboi collaborated with him on the record, while singer Malvina and rappers Edúv syn and Domo appear as guests. As charismatic as Anki's songs are, his concerts are just as charismatic.
Dukla
Friendship above all. The trio Dukla was formed on the ruins of the indie-rock project Mayen. Underr the new name, Lukáš Vydra tried to write songs in Czech and suddenly everything fell into place. The debut album Život perfektní from 2018 included hits by I.P. Pavlova or Holka se psem, the second collection Honza came in 2020. On the current record, Same Better, Dukla has already moved from introverted post-punk to more electronic and rap, with guest appearances from the likes of TK27 from 58G. A triumphant tour in the spring of 2024 confirmed Dukla as the biggest domestic club sensation, but without having to shed its sincerity.
Mat213
The voice of a generation or an internet troll? And why not both!? Musician Matěj Čech aka Mat213 took the Vinyla Award in the Discovery category in 2022 and with his new album Nesu oheň he confirms that the local alternative pop has found a new leader in him. On the new album, he surfs wildly between Latin rhythms, Eurodance and nu-metal, and in the same song he manages to simultaneously praise the midfielder of FK Slavia Prague and talk about the disillusionment of young people who graduated from school and can't find a suitable job. Annabelle, Arleta, Lajfr and Noid Bárta make guest appearances on the album full of contemporary pop and mainly swag. Mat213's concerts are a thrilling live show.
mezi patry klid
They describe their music as a common diary of people who seek in music an escape from the everyday circles of life. Between the Floors Calm is an example of a contemporary alternative approach to rap. Matouš Pospíšil and Šimon Pacek met in the math-rock band On the Roof, but gradually moved from guitars to electronics and rap experiments. With the track Lojza Kotřábek they won the Bastl Electronic Track Challenge for 2022, the track can also be found on their eponymous debut album, released in April 2024.
whyohwhy
Appart from Barbora Hora, whyohwhy also features Dag Markl, Daniel Vladik, Pavel Boika and Sonia Amran. Together they guide the listener through an abstract, darkened landscape full of novel poetics, imaginative compositions and thoughtful arrangements. In the lyrics you will come across natural motifs, but the five also discover the hidden depths of everyday life and interpersonal interactions. In the spring of 2024 they debuted with the album bruises, which was released on Day After Records. With their distinctive version of slowcore, they then toured domestic alternative music festivals.
