What can good pop look like in the post-internet age? Colourful, psychedelic, timeless, not too serious, but still with a lot of humanity. That's exactly how Magdalena Bay can be described, who will be visiting ARCHY+ on July 6 with their Imaginal Mystery Tour.
The name Magdalena Bay is not a singer, but a duo of musicians. Micah Tenenbaum and Matthew Lewin decided to name their newly formed group after an administrator at Lewin's work at the university. They released their debut album Mercurial World in 2021 on the Luminelle label. Success came relatively early, and in the next two years they scored performances at the world's leading festivals such as Coachella, Primavera and Lollapalooza. A sound riding the wave of hyperpop, not unlike that of Charli XCX or Grimes, is also present on last year's Imaginal disc, which, along with the glitch aesthetic and introspective lyrics, forms the backbone of the entire record.
