Wojtek Ziemilski: Obsessive Realism
Do you ever get that feeling that whatever happens is material for a show/event/installation? That's the starting point for the workshop.
And yet, the performance cannot be the thing itself. You can't keep your lemon if you make lemonade. Together, we will explore ways of formalising the initial material for a performance.
International arts project that brings together three cultural organizations from Central Europe—ARCHA+ (Czech Republic), Komuna Warszawa (Poland), and Projekt Batyskaf (Slovakia). Its goal is to support and implement the curatorial concept by young theater artists Adam Dragun (SK/CZ) and Olga Ciężkowska (PL), titled Based on a True Story. The project focuses on contemporary theater and performance practices that employ documentary approaches and research-based artistic processes. More information can be found here.
Wojtek Ziemilski is theatre director, artist, scholar. His performances such as "Small Narration", "One Gesture" or "Pygmalion" have been shown at venues and festivals around the world. He teaches devised and documentary performance making. He co-directs the post-graduate course "Performing Arts: Tools, Methods, Practices" at the SWPS University in Warsaw. Ziemilski defended his PhD on truth in documentary theatre at the Royal Central School of Speech and Drama in London. He loves the idea that there is a reality and that we are able to agree on a lot of things about it.
