ARCHA+ has established cooperation with the German dance company Sasha Waltz & Guests and transferred their famous production "In C" to its premises with a new cast.

Choreographed by the Berlin-based choreographer Sasha Waltz, "In C", based on the famous composition of the same name by the American composer T. Riley, will be presented by dancers and dancers who, based on the OPEN CALL and several months of rehearsals under the direction of Jiří Bartovanec, created a unique form of In C in ARCHA+.

Terry Riley's In C, a milestone of minimalist music, consists of 53 musical figures based on the constantly repeating note C. Although the musicians follow certain rules, the message of the whole piece is based on free interpretation, improvisation and, last but not least, the suppression of hierarchy.

Sasha Waltz has transformed this concept into a dance work that is considered a symbol of innovation and artistic freedom in contemporary dance. It is not a classical dance production, but a kind of platform for encounters and collaboration between dancers and musicians. In this way, the choreographer has managed to combine music and dance in a way that allows performers and audience to experience the artwork as a living and constantly evolving organism.

Sasha Waltz chose her long-time colleague Jiri Bartovanec as artistic supervisor to ensure the quality of the transfer of all the demands that the production needs.

Jiří Bartovanec is an internationally renowned dancer, choreographer and teacher with Czech roots, and most importantly a member of the prestigious Sasha Waltz company. His works often explore themes of identity, human relationships and the inner world of the individual. His choreographies are known for their emotional depth, innovative use of space and movement material, and his ability to reach audiences on a personal level.

the work In C by Terry Riley, on which the concept of the production is inspired, has been a favourite among musicians for six decades. Not only is the piece not specific about the exact number of instruments to be used, it is not even clear about the instruments to be used. This looseness led us to the idea of approaching musicians who make music that is predominantly electronic, namely the young band Between the Floors Quiet. the fusion of a kind of classical work with experimental electronics also ties in with the mission of ARCHY+.
