In C
Terry Riley's In C is a milestone in minimalist music – its 53 motifs move in an endless stream of possibilities. Similarly, Sasha Waltz has created dance score that offers a framework for free variation instead of a fixed structure. Each performance is unique, as the dancers and dancers choose how they respond to the music, the space and each other.
In our version, where a dance collective assembled from an open call connects with the band's electronic musical fusion between floors of stillness, diverse movement qualities, rhythmic layers, and unexpected silences meet. Hierarchy disappears – every step, every note is born in the moment of now.
In C doesn't play predetermined roles. Everyone is part of a pulsating organism that transforms, grows and breathes throughout the performance. An experience that never repeats itself in the same way.
Jiří Bartovanec is an internationally renowned dancer, choreographer and teacher with Czech roots, and most importantly a member of the prestigious Sasha Waltz company. His works often explore themes of identity, human relationships and the inner world of the individual. His choreographies are known for their emotional depth, innovative use of space and movement material, and his ability to reach audiences on a personal level.
