Guests will be:
Reformat / Sára Bergmannová & Tomáš Brychta,
graphic designers Ilja Bažanov and Barbora Haplová
and poet, writer and publicist Jonáš Zbořil.
(*1988), poet, writer and publicist. For his collection Podolí (Host, 2013), he was nominated for the Magnesia Litera and the Jíří Orten Prize. He has also published the collection Nová divočina (Host, 2019) and the prose Flora (Paseka, 2024). In the latter, he describes the story of Adam and Sara, two young people who find a creature made of cables and plants in the city's underbrush and begin to care for it. Zbořil worked as a radio editor, hosted the podcast Liberatura on Radio Wave, and since 2022 has worked in the cultural section of the Seznam Zprávy website.
Ilja is researching how the historical research of 20th century emigrant publications can be connected to graphic design and type design. His main focus is on type and typography, from their historical roots to contemporary experimental approaches. He studied graphic design at FUD in Ústí nad Labem and type design and typography at UMPRUM in Prague, where he is also pursuing his PhD. Barbora explores how to create highly responsive immersive books and other artworks. Her main focus is on books from all angles, from literary creation to graphic design to experimental creative approaches. She studied theory and criticism at DAMU and graphic design at UMPRUM.
Reformat was created in 2013 as a bachelor thesis at the Faculty of Art and Design of Jan Evangelista Purkyně University in Ústí nad Labem. The founder of the project, Sára Bergmannová, a graphic design student at the time, noticed the large amount of paper waste generated by graphic designers, printers and bookbinding workshops. She was motivated to find a way to use this material creatively and efficiently, which led to the creation of Reformat. This project not only gives paper a new life, but also promotes ecological thinking and spreads awareness of sustainability in design. An important part of the project is also Sara's classmate and colleague, graphic designer Tomáš Brychta, who is involved in the functional side of the project.
A key part of Reformat is the collection and processing of waste that comes from printers, salvage yards and containers. This material is sorted and used in the production of unique products, on commissions, workshops and in the shared workshop. Each collection is limited by material availability, making each product unique.
Nejenže Reformát vyrábí udržitelné papírenské produkty, ale aktivně šíří povědomí o možnostech recyklace a upcyklace. V roce 2017 otevřeli knihařskou dílnu na pražské Letné, kde kromě workshopů a kurzů funguje i sdílený prostor pro každého, kdo chce tvořit. Dílnu nejčastěji využívají studenti uměleckých škol, designéři i nadšenci, kteří hledají kreativní a udržitelnou alternativu.
