KITCHEN TABLE

CRITICAL THINKING DISCUSSION PROJECT ABOUT THEATRE AT THE DINING TABLE

✚ Do you like theatre? And do you go to watch it? Come and discuss your experiences with your peers.
✚ The Kitchen Table project, in which you will visit performances by different artists and companies, is a unique discussion workshop for critical thinking about theatre and culture.
✚ The aim of the project is to create a safe environment for reflection on the artistic experience and the development of one's own thinking.
✚ Kitchen Table is a series of debates where you can have your say.
✚ Selected participants will debate together "at the kitchen table". Critical, open and uninhibited.
✚ It will culminate in a final public discussion in the ARCHA+ space. All this under the guidance of the artists of NIE Theatre, creators of the performance RESPEKT! in co-production with ARCHA+.

MORE ABOUT THE PROJECT AND ITS CREATORS:

Projekt Kitchen Table

was created within the framework of the T.E.E.N. Theatre European Engagement Network, an international network dedicated to creating tools to promote cultural engagement among teenagers. Its main goal is to create a safe space for discussion and reflection on the artistic experience. This gives teenagers the opportunity to share their experiences and insights after seeing a performance, as well as the opportunity to hear how their peers perceived it.

In this way, the project seeks to create an environment for understanding and the development of their own thinking. It is based on the premise that teenage audiences are just as competent consumers of art and culture as adults. Teenagers try out the role of experts and keynote speakers at the dining table, while adults sit in the audience, on chairs placed around it. While it is important to keep the audience engaged, the discussion should focus on the teenagers' opinions.

Adults listen and if they wish to speak, they must raise their hand and ask to speak. Only at the invitation of the teenagers can they join the table among the experts. They have limited time to give their opinion and their contributions should be based on concrete examples or on their own experience.

The Kitchen Table concept was first brought to the Czech Republic by NIE in June 2022, where it ran a series as part of REGIONS International theatfestival Regiony. This NIE Theatre project in 2024 will be in the ARCHA+ space led by a trio of lecturers Anna, Iva and Kjell Moberg.

Kjell Moberg (1970)
is the artistic director of NIE Theatre, director, dramaturge, teacher, playwright, actor and one of the founding members of NIE Theatre, who has been creating for young teenage audiences for a long time, with a very varied and diverse genre and with overlaps to pedagogy or social work. In the Czech Republic he has lectured at numerous conferences under the auspices of DAMU, Drak Theatre and the International Institute of Figurative Theatre. He served as dramaturg for the 2022 production of So Quietly Up!, a collaboration between Spitfire and Komedia Theatre.

Iva Moberg (1975)
has been the director of the NIE Theatre since its foundation in 2001 and has been co-creating its style and artistic direction throughout that time. Iva also creates and implements the production platform for her, or rather NIE's, work. Through her production and production work, she has contributed to making NIE Theatre one of Europe's leading companies creating for both youth and adults – with a long line of presentations of NIE Theatre works in many countries around the world. Iva Moberg is also part of NIE's team of performers and educators who run creative workshops for theatre practitioners and youth as well as seminars for professional artists.

Anna Moberg (2002)
is a graduate in music composition at BIMM University in Berlin, and has been working on original music and literature (mainly under the name Anna Panchenko). Since 2018, she has been running workshops for T.E.E.N in the Czech Republic, Norway, Belgium, Italy and Denmark, and for Tekstlab, an organization that supports teenage authorship in Norway. Anna Moberg is one of the youngest generation of theatre critics and was also part of the jury for the 2019 Coda Dance Festival in Oslo.

NIE Theater
founded in 2001, is known for bringing together artists from the Czech Republic, Norway and other European countries and excels in physical theatre, live music, storytelling and working with young people. The NIE Theatre together with the multifunctional cultural space ARCHA+ will bring the premiere of an artistic performance called RESPEKT!.
The production is based on an OPEN CALL organised by ARCHA+ in collaboration with NIE Theatre for the general public and young performers aged 16–25. The production, which will be performed in the ARCHA+ space this season, will be the unique result of the work of talented young people with a passion for theatre, singing, dancing, music and writing.
